The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities Inc. (NCPD) is extremely grateful to Cabot Saint Lucia for its donation to our Prosthetics Rehabilitation and Repairs Centre which will see 10 Saint Lucians back on their feet. The NCPD has received a grant from the UNPD to purchase materials and equipment in order to construct prostheses for 10 Lucians in dire need and who are unable to afford it. This grant however did not cover the labour costs.
In our quest to raise these funds to pay our technicians to make these 10 prostheses, The NCPD approached Miss Anya Edwin, member of Cabot’s Special Advisory Committee, who was able to secure approval within 24 hours. Cabot CEO, Ms. Christine Thompson, was extremely excited about this new area of sponsorship, Prosthetic legs for Saint Lucians, and without any hesitation agreed to fund the entire amount of 14,400 EC dollars which will cover the technician fees for this process. Our beneficiaries are men, women and young people who have lost a leg due mainly due to diabetes particularly.
Anya Edwin a member of the Cabot Cares Advisory Committee was hand to present the cheque to the NCPD: “Although, as a programme, Cabot Cares is only a few days old, it is very part of Cabot’s philosophy of developing every community by partnering with organizations such as the NCPD with whom we share a common philosophy and purpose. Personally I am happy to be here today because the NCPD approached me in another capacity but we were unable to help however since becoming part of Cabot Cares a few weeks earlier I was able to channel this request to them and within 24 hours we got a positive response”.
The NCPD is truly grateful for this substantial donation which is a demonstration of Cabot’s commitment to the betterment of Saint Lucians including the most marginalised among us. The beneficiaries of this donation will literally be put back on their feet and will be walking symbols that Cabot Cares.
