Saint Lucia’s first culinary ambassador Chef Nina Compton arrived in Saint Lucia on Sunday May 4 to an official welcome reception organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries and the Saint Lucia Tourist Board. Chef Nina, daughter of the late Sir john Compton, made Saint Lucia proud when she landed in the finals of Bravo TV’s Top Chef earlier this year. She became a favourite of not just fellow Saint Lucians but fans of the show all over the world. During the launch of the 2014 Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival the tourism minister Lorne Theophilus officially announced government’s plans to make Nina a culinary ambassador.
A brief ceremony was held at the airport’s VIP lounge Sunday to welcome Nina. In attendance was her mother, Lady Janice, sister Fiona Compton, her niece as well as tourism officials. These included Louis Lewis SLTB Director, minister Theophilus and SLHTA president Caroline Troubetzkoy.
During her visit to Saint Lucia the SLTB will showcase Chef Nina as part of the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival. On Wednesday May 7 she will meet the public as part of a meet-and-greet at the Derek Walcott Square. She is also expected to attend Hot Couture that same evening, supporting her sister Fiona who is one of the designers at the fashion event. Nina will also be participating in a cooking demonstration on May 10 at the Pigeon Island as part of the main-stage Jazz & Arts event
