Chile Supports Saint Lucian Women

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]resident of the Republic of Chile, Her Excellency Michelle Bachelet, as part of her state visit to Saint Lucia on August 24th and 25th, delivered a brief address to the media alongside Prime Minister Allen Chastanet. The President announced that Chile and Saint Lucia have begun discussions on improving diplomatic ties, and exploring the exchange of ideas of each country’s policies on trade, agriculture, poverty reduction, gender relations and climate change adaptation and preparedness.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet was pleased with the meetings that had taken place between himself and H.E. Bachelet on the afternoon of Thursday 24th August and the morning of Friday 25th August 2017. The prime minister quickly announced, “We’ve spoken about women’s affairs and I want to publicly say, ‘Thank you very much’ to the government of Chile who, through you, Madam President, have agreed to contribute US$100,000 towards affected women, particularly in skills of entrepreneurship.” President Michelle Bachelet’s visit to the Caribbean also served to discuss with heads of government from the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States ways to move forward in diplomatic relations. The Chilean President expressed, “As you know, gender is always a very important issue and we will continue working on many projects [of that nature] and, of course, our donation will come here as soon as possible.”

Bachelet vowed that her government would continue working closely with Saint Lucia, CARICOM and the OECS.
