Choiseul Cultural Festival

The contestants for the Choiseul Cultural Festival Pageant.

Choiseul’s “Blotje en Chwazey” picks up steam this weekend as the district hosts the first major activity of the cultural celebration tonight Saturday September 28. The Choiseul Cultural Festival Queen Pageant takes place at Balenbouche from 8:30 and will feature seven contestants appearing in an introduction number, swimwear, talent, evening wear and interview segments.

The young ladies are representing various communities within the district. They are Maurine Noelien (20 yrs) from Bois D’Inde, Nisa Jn Baptiste (18) from Choiseul Village, Sherina Edward (22) from Debrieul, Dayne Charles (20) from La Fargue, Trina Denis (20) from Delcer, Abigail Bill (18) from Caffiere and Kamar Francis (19) from Reunion.

The event will also feature performances by Arthur, Silver Shadow Dancers, Laborie Stilt Walkers, Laborie Steel Pan, Michael Robinson and the Choiseul Salsa Dance Group.

Blotje en Chwazey is expected to climax next weekend with music festival on Saturday October 5, a craft village and festival in La Fargue on Sunday October 6, followed by J’ouvert on the morning of Monday October 7. The event will end with the parade of the bands that same day from 1 PM.
