CIBC First Caribbean Tees off with Rotary for Community Giving

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]aturday the 27th of January marked the 25th anniversary of the annual Charity Golf Tournament hosted by The Rotary Club of Gros Islet and a relationship with the event by CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank that spans over fifteen years.

The annual activity is a major highlight on the annual gold calendar, and the main fundraiser by the club in support of youth-at-risk, community development and various other social development initiatives.

CIBC First Caribbean pledged $5000 for last weekend’s charity golf tournament hosted by The Rotary Club of Gros Islet.

The successful completion of an extensive list of far-reaching community outreach projects around the island have been realized from the proceeds the Annual Charity Golf Tournament. In its twenty-five years, the event has raised over EC 1.5 million which has been funneled into programmes in support of primary school preventive dental care, farmer assistance micro-lending, provision of pipe-borne water to Plateau Babonneau, specialized playground and wheelchair support for special needs children, remedial help and support for underprivileged kindergarteners and students of the Centre for Adolescent Renewal and Education to name a few.

With the clubs milestone of 25 years, CIBC FirstCaribbean pledged its support to the tune of XCD5000 for last weekend’s event. The bank’s County Manager Ladesa James-Williams said the rationale for sustaining the partnership is that the club’s community work aligns with the bank’s community focus.

“We strive to improve the lives of our communities, redirect life chances of our young people and foster entrepreneurs who have a vision and passion for changing Saint Lucia”, Mrs. James-Williams went on to say, while commending the club for its impressive community building portfolio over the course of twenty-five years.
