After Friday’s semi-finals The Commercial Basketball League will crown a champion today at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.
The Royal St Lucia Police Force went up against Scotia Bank in one semi-final and the other had St Lucia Fire Service taking on Renwick and Company. The two winning teams advance to the finals.
On Wednesday in the last qualification round games played, Renwick made it through as the second seed in Group A to the semi-finals with a win over ECFH 52 – 45. Greg Mathurin led the way for Renwick with a double-double of 17 points, 16 rebounds and six assists. Steve Henry added 16 pts and five rebs to lead their team to the semi-finals where they played Royal St Lucia Police Force on Friday.
Kurt Hyacinth was the lone player with double figures for ECFH with 18 pts and five rebs, which proved too little for them against Renwick.
Sandals also got their second win of the tournament in game two Wednesday evening, defeating Insurance All Stars 64 – 46. Both teams played simply for pride as their fate with qualification had already been decided before their game, with Insurance All Stars in particular trying to win their first game in Commercial League Basketball. They went down with another defeat and finish this year’s tournament 0 – 4. Miguel Chicot had 12 pts and seven rebs and Casim James added 12 pts, six rebs for Sandals.
Ian Lesmond led the way for Insurance All Stars with 16 pts and 11rebs.
Today the two losing semi-finalists play for third place at 6:00 pm at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, followed by the championship game at 8:00 pm. Immediately afterwards is the prize giving to cap off a very successful Commercial League Basketball League.
