Corrections Officer on Bail!

Bordelais Correctional officers came out in support of their colleague last week.

A corrections officer thrust into news headlines after a shooting that left three civilians including the intended victim, an ex convict nursing gun shot wounds, made his first court appearance on Friday, January 13.
The man’s court showing came one day after officers attached to the Bordelais Correctional Facility made their presence felt in Castries in a demonstration of support for their colleague.
The corrections officer was charged with attempted murder, reckless harm, reckless wounding and discharging a firearm in a public place. He was granted bail on Friday in the total sum of $34,000 and the trial adjourned to February 9.
“He’s on bail. He obtained his liberty that same Friday and the matter is set for the D court, the officer’s lawyer Mark Maragh told the STAR, adding: “It’s a bit difficult to tell right now [where the case is going], in terms of the strength of the prosecution’s case, which has not yet been disclosed to us, but when we have that and a copy of the police file we’ll be in a better position to actually access the strength of the prosecutions case against our client.”
Maragh did not wish to comment on how he felt his client was being treated by the law thus far as the case progresses but he commented on one of many controversial issues that have come up in the media since the shooting. When asked about his thoughts concerning double standards relating to police officers and prison officers in such cases the lawyer responded: “I’m not aware there is a double standard. I guess there are certain procedures that have to be undertaken in any given matter and I assume that’s what took place on this occasion.”
