COVID-19 Update: 41 New Cases, 1 Death

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Wednesday, October 13, 2021 confirms a total of forty-one (41) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 240 samples which were collected between October 11 and October 12, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 17.1% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 12, 095.

The Ministry of Health also reports one (1) new COVID-19 death. This death occurred on October 10, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in-country is 178 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 54.

COVID-19 death #178 is a 75 year old male from the Castries district. The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the bereaved families, friends and loved ones of this individual. Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 87 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19.

This brings the number of active cases in-country to 723. Four (4) individuals are in critical state while twelve (12) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,325 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 30,242 have received the second dose. A total of 11,897 individuals have received the first dose and 6,335 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Vieux Fort RC Parish Hall and Courts Unicomer Branch at Marisule, Gros-Islet. The vaccine will also be distributed at People’s Discount Drugstore at its St. Louis Street, Castries location and Tapion Hospital by appointment only. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at all sites from 9 am to 4 pm.
