COVID-19 Update – 57 New Cases, 3 Deaths

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Thursday, October 7, 2021, confirms a total of fifty-seven (57) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 307 samples which were collected between October 3 and October 4, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 18.6% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11, 890.

The Ministry of Health also reports three (3) new COVID-19 deaths and three (3) new COVID- 19 related deaths. All these deaths occurred during the period September 11, 2021 to October 2, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 170 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 51.

COVID-19 death #168 is a 36 year old female from the Gros Islet district. COVID-19 death #169 is a 57 year old female of the Vieux- Fort district. COVID-19 death #170 is a 73 year old male from the Castries district. COVID-19 related death #49 is a 47 year old male from the Babonneau district. COVID-19 related death #50 is a 87 year old male from the Babonneau district. COVID-19 related death #51 is a 63 year old male from the Dennery district.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 107 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 1,159. Two (2) individuals are in critical state while nine (9) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,174 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,912 have received the second dose. A total of 11,064 individuals have received the first dose and 4,901 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Jacmel Wellness Centre, Gros Islet Human Resource Centre, Soufriere Hospital, St Anthony Medical Center in Sunny Acres, Castries and Inno Care on Clarke Street, Vieux Fort. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at all sites from 9 am to 2 pm.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
