Millet Cobras are the 2019 South Castries Cricket Association National Lotteries T20 champions. The men-in-green defeated Bexon Oval Super Stars by eight wickets. Sent in to bat, Bexon was hoping that there would be a repeat power hitting innings from their opening batsman Collinus Callendar. That was not to be as Callendar could only muster 19 runs before being caught behind. At this point there was a steady fall of wickets as Bexon was dismissed for 114 in 17.5 overs. Adil Barlow was the main contributor with the bat with 30 runs.
Aloysius Charles, bowling at a gentle medium pace, bagged three for 31, with Kester Charlemagne and Shervon Leo picking up two wickets each. Needing just under six runs per over, Millet raced to victory using up just 11.3 overs and only losing two wickets in the process. Their charge to victory was led by opening batsman Anderson Charles, who stroked an aggressive 50 before being run out. There were also useful contributions from Kemrol Charles (30 runs) and Kester Charlemagne (22 runs).
At the presentation ceremony which immediately followed, the following awards were presented: MVP Qualifier 1 (Millet vs Crusaders) – Kester Charlemagne; Eliminator (SCCA U19 vs Bexon) – Lee Solomon; Qualifier 2 (Bexon vs Crusaders) – Collinus Callendar; Player of the Final – Anderson Charles; Most Runs – Collinus Callendar (236 runs); Most Wickets – Lee Solomon (10 wkts); MVP of the Tournament – Collinus Callendar; umpires of the tournament – Maria David and Matthew John. They also received medals and a token of appreciation. The winning team, Millet, and runners up, Bexon, also received their respective cheques.
In other news, South Castries Ladies successfully defended their Alicia John T20 title following a four wicket win on Saturday at the Mindoo Phillip Park. The win made it six consecutive titles for the South Castries ladies.
Sent in to bat Gros Islet was dismissed for 87, thanks largely to extras which totalled a healthy 41 consisting of 35 wides. National batter Malika Edward 16 and former national player Heidi Sandiford 11 were the only batters to reach double figures.
Bowling for the Lionesses, spinner Teeadie Crawford posted three for 21, Phillipa Eudovic two for six, Ashlene Edward one for 15 and Amia Polius one for 10. Despite the loss of national opening batter, Edward, in the first over without scoring, South Castries was able to secure victory behind a mature and responsible captain’s inning of 46 by Windward Islands all-rounder Nerissa Crafton. She shared in two crucial partnerships with Castelle Vitalis and Cherry George, as the Lionesses reached 88 for six in 14.3 overs.
Bowling for Gros Islet, Heidi Sandiford bagged three for 11. Nerissa Crafton was adjudged Player of the Final.
