Digicel Celebrates St. Lucia’s Creole Culture

In an effort to promote, preserve and celebrate St. Lucia’s cultural heritage, Digicel has joined the rest of St. Lucia in observance of October as Creole Heritage Month. A host of activities, plus communities and initiatives which all form part of the calendar of activities for October, are all recipients of Digicel’s kind support.

Creole Heritage Month 2015 birthed some new and exciting partnerships between Digicel and the creole celebratory community such as De Soca-Calypso Revue, Kwéyol Song Competition, Fet Kwéyol held in Belle Vue and Kwéyol en Mouveman, a grand creole parade.

Saint Lucians young and old will indulge in Creole Heritage Month activities.

Digicel’s support has been widespread as each initiative has had its respective focus such as education, entertainment and community development which all inevitably contribute to the holistic development of St. Lucia’s culture and preservation of heritage.

Digicel commenced the packed Jounen Kwéyol weekend with a grand creole street parade, “Kwéyol en Mouvman”. It was a colourful and spectacular presentation of the various aspects of St. Lucia’s Creole heritage comprising five major components. These were indigenous music played by a street orchestra, dance and stilt walkers, traditional characters portrayed such as Mary-Enceinte and Paiye-bannan, Jab-jab, masqueraders and elements of our flower festivals, La Rose and La Marguerite, all forming part of the rich celebrations of Friday night Gros Islet Street Party.

Digicel is also extending support to the third annual Swawé Kwéyol St. Lisie! Swawé Kwéyol is a unique family event designed to encourage St. Lucians to demonstrate pride in who they are and celebrate authentic St. Lucian Culture. Fond D’Or Nature Park will come alive on Saturday October 24th from 11am with a fusion of amazing St. Lucian cuisine, traditional music, kids play area, fashion show, arts, crafts and more. Entertainment highlights will include Eva Lucian and friends, DYP and, out of Nigeria, Timaya.

Digicel and De Soca-Calypso Revue will close off Creole Heritage Month on October 31st in a huge way with the annual Creole Song Competition, ‘Annou Manjé, Chanté epi Dansé en Kwéyol” at the National Cultural Centre.

This competition will feature a diverse range of young artists and veterans who will all compete for the converted title of Creole Song King.

Digicel wishes all St. Lucian’s a safe and enjoyable Jounen Kwéyol.
