House Speaker Andy Daniel took parliamentarians to task this morning ahead of day 2 of the Budget Debate. At the end of yesterday’s sitting of the House of Assembly, the debate was adjourned until “9:00 am promptly tomorrow.”
Today’s proceedings began over an hour late much to the displeasure of Daniel. Glancing at his watch, he said: “Honourable members, on the parliamentary clock it is now 10:17. I am aware that we may all have our businesses to do but the business of the people should always take precedent. And our quorum is just 7 to get the business of the people done. We cannot have members getting here for the time so stipulated and have to wait on other members to trickle in.”
He continued: “We’re approximately an hour and 20 minutes late. I have so authorized the sergeant as of today to arrest members to get them in the chamber if needs be, to get the work of the people done.”
The MPs present during the speaker’s admonition were Philip J. Pierre, Alva Baptiste, Shawn Edward, Moses Jn. Baptiste, Ernest Hilaire, Ezechiel Joseph, Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, Bradley Felix, Heord Stanislas and Edmund Estephane.
