Scenes of celebration are emerging throughout the island as preliminary results suggest that the St. Lucia Labour Party under the leadership of Dr. Kenny Anthony has regained control of the Government after being in opposition for the past five years. Preliminary results indicate a victory of 9 seats to 8 in favour of the Labour party. A victory by only a small margin there were at least two constituencies where candidates requested recounts due to small margins. Not a clear mandate declared by some, a definite win by others one thing is certain is that the dust is beginning to settle after both of the main parties anticipated victory. Official results are expected today as the electoral department recounts to ensure accuracy. More on this, the performance of independent candidate Jeanine Compton and other parties, in the Wednesday Star and on subsequent reports on this website.
Update: The electoral department has confirmed with their preliminary count a 10-7 victory for the St Lucia Labour Party. They are still counting.
