(ECADE) in partnership with Synergía announces its collaboration with the European Commission on the “CALIPSO” project, supported by the European Development Fund. CALIPSO – Caribbean LGBTQ Initiative to Promote Solidarity Outcomes aims to advance the full protection and promotion of human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people.
This regional project focuses on countries within the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and Barbados. Over the next 3-years, activities will be conducted with country level organization to ensure visibility through equitable representation and advocacy utilising documented lived realities of constituents’ as well as capacity development.
“The CALIPSO project vitally increases our work around issues that negatively affect the freedoms and rights of LGBTQ+ people, with real positive impact that will resonate on the ground in our countries,” says ECADE Executive Director Kenita Placide. “Ultimately, LGBTQ+ individuals and communities across the eastern Caribbean will enjoy the full protection and promotion of their human rights, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC). This project is another step in activating progress towards change.”
ECADE is keen on advancing this project’s strategic objectives with its current and future partners, given the relevance for the lived realities of LGBTQ+ persons in the Eastern Caribbean as well as the overall state of protection and enjoyment of human rights across the OECS and Barbados.
