Eddie Murphy goes reggae

Comedian and Actor Eddie Murphy will take a stab at the music scene once again.

Following Rapper Snoop Dogg’s controversial conversion to Rastafrianism and Reggae music another American entertainment icon is following suit. Although truth be told this is actually a second coming for actor and comedian Eddie Murphy. Back in the 80’s Murphy first teamed up with Rick James to release “Party all the time” and later collaborated with Jamaican Dancehall Star Shabba Ranks on the song “I was king.”

The star of films like  ”Coming to America,” ”Beverly Hills Cop,” “48 Hours” “Trading Places”  and most recently “A thousand words,” has released a single called “Red Light” that features Snoop Lion formerly known as Snoop Dogg. The single was released via a new Twitter page recently set up for Murphy, and is part of a soon-to-be-released album called “9.” The song is done in the traditional reggae style, with Murphy singing and playing guitar.

It’s the first major musical foray in nearly 20 years for Murphy, whose singing career is best known for the album “How Could It Be,” which was released in 1985 and featured the hit song “Party All the Time.”

The song and several others were said to be recorded as Murphy worked on a Beverly Hills Cop TV movie about the son of his character, Axel Foley.

The official music video for “Red Light” will be released on Sept. 9.
