Final round victory

The final round of matches in the 2013 Windward Islands Under-15 Cricket Tournament held in St Vincent & the Grenadines was completed Wednesday, with comprehensive victories for St Lucia over Dominica and for Grenada over St Vincent & the Grenadines.

At Arnos Vale Two St Lucia handed tournament champions Dominica their first defeat in the tournament with an inspired performance. St Lucia who won the toss and batted first made an impressive 227 for nine in their allotted 50 overs. Openers Dane Edward with 50 and Jervel Tobierre 37, put on 103 for the first wicket to set up the St Lucia total.

The hard hitting Denzel James made an aggressive 41 supported by Nick Elibox with 16, Yolan Calander 12 and Nyim Calender 10.

Alick Athanaze was the most successful bowler for Dominica with figures of three for 33 in 10 overs.

In reply the Dominicans were bowled out for 129 in 29.2 overs with Tahj Tavanier making 26.

Doing the damage for the St Lucians were leg spinner Stuart Calderon dismissing three for 32 in 9.2 overs, off spinner Johnnel Eugene two for 22 in seven overs, seamers Nick Elibox two for 23 in seven overs, Jeannick Fontielle Serieux two for 24 in five overs and Jerviel Tobierre one for 20 in three overs.

As a result, St Lucia won comfortably by 98 runs. The closing ceremony took place Wednesday evening, with prizes and awards being presented to outstanding performers. The 2013 Windward Islands Under-15 Cricket team was also named at the ceremony.
