Former SLP hopeful Jawahir congratulates Senator Henry

Lisa Jawahir has congratulated Senator Joachim Henry for becoming the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s endorsed candidate for the Castries South East constituency. Earlier today, Opposition Leader Philip J. Pierre announced that Henry— who was defeated in the 2016 general election by MP Guy Joseph —had been endorsed by the party’s executive again to contest the next election.

In an exclusive interview with the STAR in April 2019, Jawahir, a businesswoman and political newcomer, announced her intention to become the SLP’s candidate for the Castries South East constituency. Jawahir said she believed that she had the qualities constituents were looking for: a dynamic, young person with fresh perspectives, and the provision of proper representation for all.

“The people of Castries South East have been pleading for better representation and now is the time to give them what they deserve. They thought they would’ve gotten it with the current representative but they are expressing how dissatisfied they are with how he has managed the constituency,” she told the STAR last year.

Today, following news that Henry was chosen by the SLP, Jawahir took to her Facebook page to lend support. “I take this opportunity to congratulate Senator Joachim Henry as the endorsed Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate for Castries South East… I commend the other potential candidates in this race: Eustace Monrose and Garvin Francis who gave it their all.”

She added: “This is just the beginning comrades and I look forward to working with you all as we prepare for this battle ahead.”
