Four Southern Pre-Schools hosted as Special Guests at Coconut Bay

Students and teachers from four Early Childhood Development Centres in the south were guests of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa’s management and staff on Wednesday 18th November, 2015, two days ahead of the United Nations Universal Children’s Day observance. Children from Ti Petit, Let’s Be Friends, Easy Learning, and Golden Steps Ahead were treated to food and drinks plus games at the Cocoland Kidz Klub, Splash fun at the Waterpark, and a visit to the Resort’s Coco Corral Petting Zoo. The resort also hosted a special edition of its weekly Charity Rubber Duck Race. The children joined guests to cheer on their favourite floating ducks with proceeds of the day (US $820.00) benefiting the visiting schools.

“We’re privileged to be able to focus awareness on children’s rights as well as to celebrate with local students so that they can grow up knowing their importance and worth to us and our community,” said Mark Adams, CEO of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa.

The United Nations Universal Children’s Day is observed to bring attention to the UN Declaration and Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty setting out children’s rights, from the right to life, health, education and play, to the right to family life, protection from violence, not being discriminated against, and having their views heard.

Coconut Bay is committed to help nurture the well-being and development of our nation’s children. This is demonstrated through its Cocoland Cares programme which provides learning materials to every pre-school (145) on the island. The recent signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding with the St Jude Hospital, part of which involves the adoption of the hospital’s paediatric ward, is another demonstration of that commitment.
