French St Martin were crowned champions of the 2012 ECVA Youth Female Volleyball Championships Sunday night at the Beausejour Indoor Facility, after downing Antigua 3:2 in a keenly and fiercely contested encounter (18-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-17 19-17).
St Lucia finished in third place ahead of fourth place St Vincent.
The last set in the championship encounter was a see-saw affair. There were a number of serving errors which kept everyone at the edge of their seats, as any team could have won
at any point. “It was not a game that was good for the heart” conclude both coaches.
Louisnia Maccow led French St Martin with 21 points, while Cassamojor Fleurimeme with seven points and Jessica Lake who chipped in with five points providing great support.
Antigua finished in second place after making a fantastic recovery after two consecutive opening losses and then turning things around, winning in straight sets against St Vincent in the last preliminary round game then 3:0 against St Lucia in the semi-finals.
Natasha Richardson led Antigua with 23 points while Morgen Halstead had five points.
In the third place match, St Lucia took revenge on St Vincent for an opening night defeat, to win the third place match 3:1 (25-22, 25-19, 13-25, 25-15).
Dala Noel led St Lucia with 15 points. St Lucia earned the consolation place giving the small but vociferous home crowd something to chair about, after a very flat performance in the semi-final match earlier that day.
