nice article.You should think of financing a truck license for one of your labourers on whom you can depend for the long term, then employ a labourer in his place.This is how certain foreign companies opperate.You could deduct the invested money from his salary little by little over a set period.

What I liked about this article is that Mr. Gajadhar highlighted the “root cause” of the unemployment situation is St-Lucia by using his own company as a benchmark. There are some extremely hardworking St-Lucian who work come rain or shine to put food on the table and educate their off-springs; however, there are those factions that are all about money. No education and no skills but want executive pay how can a country move forward with this kind of mentality? And they have a system in place to back them up. Imagine a Security Guard posted at a hotel spends more time surveying her smartphone than surveying her surroundings for impending threats to the establishment and its guests.

This guy needs to stop and think before he speaks, on one hand he comes out saying you can’t pay people just because they have certificates while on the other hand he is complaining of not finding qualified persons. Will he be employing an unqualified person to fill the positions of auditor and analyst? Or can any Joe Blow apply for these jobs?

That is a very good analysis of what passes for labour unions particularly in St. Lucia. However, I am not in agreement with some opinions stated by the speaker. As it relates to those deemed lacking skills, I dare say that the blame lies at the feet of the current PM. Here is a guy voted for overwhelmingly in 1997 with the hope that he would take us from where the late Mr. Compton left, i.e. higher education, increased training in fields such as engineering, upgrading SALCC into a full fledge university, promoting competitive sports among youth with intention of excelling regionally and internationally, promoting arts and entertainment, etc. Yes, I was 18 years in 1997 and that is what…
