Government Advances St. Lucia to CCJ

Prime Minister Philip Pierre

Office of the Prime Minister – The appellate jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will be Saint Lucia’s final appeals court. Having the CCJ as Saint Lucia’s final appeals court will eliminate the cost prohibitive fees associated with the Privy Council and make justice more accessible and more affordable for Saint Lucian citizens. On February 28, 2023 a 3/4 majority of the Lower House, anchored by Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre, passed the historic Bill to amend the Constitution of Saint Lucia to allow part ways Britain’s Privy Council and accede to the appellate jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice [CCJ]. Below is a video news report by Rehani Isidore.
