SSDF and Invest Saint Lucia collaborate to assist Vieux-Fort South Resident
Mr. Edward Emanius of Vieux-Fort South is the gracious recipient of a single occupant dwelling in the quiet community of La Tourney.
Saint Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) funded the construction of the home, and Invest St. Lucia provided the land on which to build.
Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Vieux-Fort South the Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony said Mr. Emanius, who has been a sports ambassador and a humble citizen, is well deserving of this assistance.
“_I was horrified when I saw the conditions in which he lived just above the river bank. The trough had completely overwhelmed his home- and that was the second occasion, as Tomas had ripped into the house and damaged it severely- so the trough had completed the job. He was living in very difficult circumstances, but the truth is that he’s never really a man to complain. Despite the fact that there was an obvious need, he never went around complaining, asking, begging, he just took his lot in life. While I knew of the situation following Tomas, it took some time for us to get around [to everyone], and when I visited again after the trough, I knew there and then that we had to do something about his situation and take him out of his misery,_” Prime Minister Anthony said.
The Prime Minister echoed government’s commitment to identify and assist the most vulnerable in society, while he impressed the importance of self-sufficiency to promote individual and national development.
Dr. Anthony expressed profound gratitude to contractor, Mr. Royden Barley who agreed to complete the project without compensation.
The project was completed at a total cost of EC$21,246.12 owing in part to the complimentary labour and discounts on materials from True Value Building & Hardware Supplies.
