Guinness Street Footbal gains momentum

Elisha Shernelle Marquis was outstanding for Leeds.

There were two very exciting days of action at the weekend, as the Guinness Street Football Challenge kicked off. Large crowds turned out at Micoud Saturday evening and in Desruisseaux Sunday evening to be part of the action.
Saturday evening at the Micoud Multi-Purpose Court, a large crowd turned out to see Leeds and Fresh Legs book their place in the Grand Finals of the competition.
Leeds emerged winners of the Micoud leg of the competition, winning over Fresh Legs in a penalty shoot out after they played to a goal less draw in the finals. In the semi- finals Fresh Legs won over Young Stars in a penalty shootout while Leeds got past East Winds 3-1.
Outstanding in the Micoud Leg were Collins “Carada” Ferdinand the Leeds team captain, for his long range goal scoring and reigning Female Footballer of the Year, Elisha Shernelle Marquis, who was the only female footballer on show on the night. She also scored four goals, three from open play including a clever back heeled goal and one from the penalty spot in a penalty shootout. Marquis was a member of the victorious Leeds team.
Sunday night in Desruisseaux, Rising Stars and Blanchard United qualified for the Grand Finals. Rising Stars won the Desruisseaux leg of the competition with a penalty shoot out win over Blanchard United.
In the semi-finals, Blanchard United got past Lion Hearts while Rising Stars triumphed over Gangsterable.
The Guinness Street Football Challenge moves to Gros Islet Friday evening and Babonneau on Sunday. There is also the possibility of a leg being played in Mabouya Valley Saturday evening. This is expected to be confirmed later this week.
The finals of the Guinness Street Challenge Football Competition takes place on the “Cacabef” the old airport strip in Vieux Fort May 15. That’s when the 16 finalists will battle for $5,000 in cash and prizes.
