Journalist Miguel Fevrier announced Wednesday that Minister for Economic Development Guy Joseph, has filed a defamation claim against him and his employer MBC Television. Following a June 16 report by MBC concerning the ‘First Steps Pre- School’ in Sarrot, Joseph indicated that he would be taking legal action against the company. In a letter to MBC on June 17, Joseph’s legal representation Amicus Legal, argued that the story amounted to “criminal libel” and called on the television station to issue a retraction.
MBC did not retract the story, and on July 21 Joseph and Fevrier clashed outside Parliament building, after Fevrier questioned the minister about the pre-school.
Speaking on his show Offscript on Wednesday, Fevrier provided an update on the situation: “Guy Joseph has filed a claim. You know all the times he was saying that there’s a matter before the courts, there wasn’t. He has finally filed a claim. A defamation; a claim against me, and a claim against MBC. I’m not going to show it to you really but I’m in possession of it and until my lawyers have taken a look at it and of course we file the appropriate response, I have placed it in the appropriate folder for filing.”
He added, “And I have one more thing to say on that matter: Mr. Minister, I’ll see you in court!”
