Heineken crowns new champion!

Heineken Brand Manager Gaius Harry (l) with DJ Yellow the winner of Heineken Green Synergy 2013.

Heineken Green Synergy, the annual summer long event that brings DJ’s from all across the island together to do battle for cash and prizes ended on Sunday. Now in its tenth year the grand final of the event took place on Sunday September 1 at Fond D’or where thousands partied, danced, swayed and cheered for their favourite DJs.

The 2013 Heineken Green Synergy DJ Competition offered a number of side attractions including an appearance by General Bakes and samplings of a new product by Heineken’s parent company in Saint Lucia, WLBL. There were also appearances by a number of guest DJ’s including DJ HP, Supa Scorp, three time Heineken Green Synergy DJ Champion Webbie D, St. Maarten’s Green Synergy champion DJ Paulie and a new female DJ. But of course the center of attraction on Sunday was the DJ competition and the ten who had gone through the paces from the auditions to the qualifying rounds to the semi-finals and then the finals.

The defending champion of  Heineken Green Synergy was Selecta Twis who won in 2011 and 2012. However on Sunday, he was dethroned by a new DJ who was taking part in the event for the very first time.

Lineker Valcin aka DJ Yellow walked away with the title of 2013 Heineken Green Synergy and the 21 year old from Ti Rocher, Castries was a crowd favorite from the start. He performed a near seamless flow of mixing a variety of music as he excited the crowd during his fifteen –minute set along with his sidekick MC Tea Bag.

DJ Yellow said afterward that it felt good winning Green Synergy, an event that he has been a fan of for a number of years. He was thrilled to have won the competition although going into the event he was not sure how far it would take him. “This is my first time in Heineken Green Synergy but I have been following it for a number of years and I have always wanted to take part,” Yellow says. “But it kind of took me by surprise when I heard that I had actually won, although I knew that I had done my best,” he added. The new Heineken Green Synergy Champion would like to thank all his fans and supporters as well as Heineken for the opportunity and his MC, “Tea bag.”

At a prize giving ceremony to be held later this month, DJ Yellow will receive his winning trophy and a check of EC$4,000 as well as Heineken products. As the new Heineken Green Synergy DJ champion, he will have the opportunity to play at a number of Heineken and WLBL events throughout the year of his reign and will also attend the Heineken regatta in St. Maarten in March 2013 where he will play as a guest celebrity DJ.

DJ Hyper who placed second will receive EC$3,000 plus Heineken product and Selecta Twis who placed third receives EC$1,500 plus Heineken product.

Heineken brand manager Gaius Harry says that he was more than happy to see the tremendous support the event received by the fans and supporters once again. “We really would like to thank all the fans who came out on Sunday making the event a grand success and incident free as well,” Harry said. He went on; “we must also pay our respect to all the persons and the DJ’s who had the confidence in Green Synergy from day one back in 2004 and many of them are still supporting us today. They have challenged us to keep innovating and so once again we go back to the drawing board to determine what to do next after ten years. But whatever it is, Heineken fans can be assured that it will be exciting and consumer driven,” Harry says.
