Athletes compete at World Championships

High jumper Darvin Edwards

All plans are in place for Saint Lucia’s participation in this 48th IAAF Congress and the 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics scheduled for Daegu, Korea.
The Association’s congress delegate, Alfred Emmanuel, left the island earlier this week on route to Korea, where he will represent the country at this very important congress. The congress is an elective one and as such a number of candidates will be seeking our support. The congress will open on August 23, 2011 and will last for three days.
Meanwhile Saint Lucia’s team to the World Championship comprises of high jumpers Darvin Edwards and Levern Spencer. The athletes are expected to arrive in Daegu well ahead of the competition schedule. Edwards arrives August 23 and Spencer August 24, 2011. Trevor Llewellyn, who currently oversees Edwards training in the United Kingdom, will be the technical official charged with the responsibility of assisting the two athletes.

The Association received a request from Spencer to have her coach accredited, which would have facilitated his presence at the Championship. However, due to unforeseen developments, the association was informed of his unavailability to travel to Daegu.
Edwards gets into competition on August 30 and Spencer September 1 in their qualifying rounds and if successful will compete in the finals on September 1 and 3 respectively.
The St Lucia Athletics Association wishes Spencer and Edwards the best of luck over in Daegu.
