The 2011 Independence Inter-Club Netball Competition got off to a good start on Saturday from 2:45 pm.
The brief opening ceremony started with the singing of the national anthem by members of Kidznet. Before the recital of the officials’ and players’ oaths, the St Lucia National Netball Association (SLNNA) President, Rufina Paul, welcomed all netballers to the opening of the 2011 Netball Season and outlined the schedule of activities for the 2011.
The SLNNA sincerely appreciates the turn out of the netballers, in particular the Under-13 netballers from Bocage as well as Kidznet.
The five teams participating in Division I are Avengers, St Lucian Eagles, 2011 National Under-16 Netball Team, the Windward Islands Team and Elite
Strikers (defending champions).
Teams in Division II are Bocage, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Avengers and Shamrock.
The results of the Netball Rama held on Saturday are as follows. Division I: First place, Elite Strikers, eight points; second, 2011 National Under-16 Team; third, Avengers; fourth, St Lucian Eagles; fifth, Windward Islands.
Avengers and the Under-16 team each earned five points
and shared second place. St Lucia Eagles earned two points and Elite Strikers eight points to secure first place.
Division II: First, Shamrock, four points; second, Avengers; third, Bocage.
All four Division II teams will play matches on Saturdays. The first match in Division II will start (each Saturday) at 2:30 pm and the
second match is scheduled for a 3:45 pm start time. The two Division I matches on Saturdays will be at 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm respectively. All matches will be played at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
Saturdays in March will be packed with netball action and the public is invited to enjoy exciting netball. The SLNNA urges netballers to maintain their enthusiasm and contribute to a successful 2011 Netball Season.
