The Lambirds Academy scandal continues to unfold like a Lifetime story—only this one couldn’t be more real. The latest episode involves one of the students who gave birth here on Monday to a bouncing baby boy. She is among a dozen young citizens from India and Nepal who were marked for deportation on Monday by the Saint Lucian government.
The student Gurjit Kaur and her boyfriend, also a student, were among those whose names were submitted to the DPP for her consent to repatriate them. These plans were evidently foiled, mainly because the students’ names were also submitted by the police as possible witnesses in their case against the operators of Lambirds Academy who face charges including human trafficking, obtaining by deception and money laundering.
On Friday the STAR visited the mother and baby, both of whom seemed to be doing just fine. A very supportive father stood by. Leading attorneys here have stated that by virtue of being born in Saint Lucia, the child is to be legally considered a native Saint Lucian.
