Inter-Commercial House Competition Raises the Roof!

The National Cultural Centre was on Tuesday energized by the hundreds of enthusiastic supporters who showed up to cheer on their organisation’s representative. This year’s Inter-Commercial House Calypso Competition was well-attended and supported by both music and entertainment lovers in general, and staff of the competing organisations, companies and groups. The line-up was engaging and captivated the attention of the audience from start to finish, with an assortment of acts highlighting and addressing pertinent social issues. The songs were thought-provoking and cleverly crafted to humour even the more serious among the audience.

Represented on the night were: RSLPF, NIC, Duty Free Caribbean, FLOW, Sandals, MBC/ Real FM, CSA, Super J, RCI and 1st National Bank. Guest artistes were in attendance and had the greater part of the crowd on their feet, dancing to the soca music they delivered. Gracing the stage were the likes of Ricky T and Ezra D’Fun Machine; Q-pid and Ambi who performed their famous ‘Elections’ piece, and Jay & Bronx who added great energy to the show.

After hours of excitement building up to the moment of anticipation, the results were announced, much to the favour of the majority of the crowd.

Mave Alexander ‘The Maverick’ representing CSA placed fourth with her song ‘Poor Man Blues’ gaining a total of 335 points, while Nadia Auguste ‘Nads’ of Super J was third with ‘Think Again’ amassing 336 points. Emerging as second place winner was Erny Johny ‘Erny J’ of Duty Free Caribbean singing ‘The Truth’ which earned him 338 points. Taking home the crown a second time following last Saturday’s Kaiso Headquarters XI show was PC Alden ‘Spoiler’ Raphael of the RSLPF with his crowd favourite ‘Organ Donor’ which gained him an amazing 363 points.

With his track, ‘Spoiler” sought to offer his body parts to various members of government for specific reasons relating to those individuals. The crowd was in uproar when he proffered his male members to two female media and public figures, namely Jadia Jn Pierre and Jade Brown, and his finger to an undisclosed female minister of government.

Another highlight of the night was 1st National Bank representative Owen ‘Gyal Dem’ Elwin who had everyone dancing in unison to his upbeat song ‘Your Own Party’, a soca selection. Ashlei Alcide ‘Ashes’ of NIC proved to be another crowd favourite with ‘Bachannal Zone’ when she unexpectedly transformed from a professionally attired businessperson into a carnival reveller before the eyes of all in attendance. The Master of Ceremony for the night was entertainer, radio personality, artiste and MC Pringles, also known as Superman HD.
