Jazz Getaway at Marigot Bay

Jazz on the Bay, the bayside experience now in its second year scored big once again this year with Saint Lucians, visitors and of course yachtees. Held at the world famous Marigot Bay, which has been enshrined internationally in song and film, it was only natural that a piece of the world renowned Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival pie be served to Marigot.

Marigot Bay Marina and its surrounding hillside and seascape make it undisputedly one of the most beautiful small marinas in the Caribbean. This year the music from Jazz on the Bay served as the perfect soundtrack.

Since rising to the occasion in 2012, Jazz on the Bay at Marigot Bay, which is a free showcase, has served up a sumptuous treat, doing so again this year. Held on Friday, May 3, the event offered some world-class Jazz music by the group Inner Urge, which features a number of experienced musicians from Saint Lucia. Also performing was Mervyn Wilkinson who according to organizers, was back by popular demand
after bringing down the
house last year. And, so it unfolded again this year, as Mervyn and the band Ten-90 featuring Martin Dorville, entertained the audience with a blend of pop and Reggae hits as well as a few original numbers.

Emerson Nurse and the Saint Lucia School of music laced the event with some contemporary Jazz grooves while the 2013 Groovy Soca Monarch Teddyson John and Power Soca Monarch Superman HD, turned the event into a celebratory affair, much to the excitement of the large crowd.

Sponsors, the media and other invited guests were treated like true VIP’s in the lounge overlooking the event. The action all took place dock side, where stilt walkers and models wearing fashion by local designers kept the buzz going all day long. With art and craft on sale from members of the local craft association, this year’s Jazz on the Bay was truly in tune with the broader Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival, which was held here April 30 to May 12.

The event, which was hosted by Solange, continued late into the evening at Discovery, also at Marigot Bay, featuring DYP Band. They ignited the evening sky bringing Jazz on the Bay to a mesmerizing close.
With several persons expressing the desire to be back next year, we certainly think the dock and the Bay may need a little expansion for the crowd expected to descend on Marigot bay following this year’s rave reviews!
