Jeremiah Norbert says that he has prepared himself mentally for any outcome ahead of a critical period in his recovery process. The Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate for Micoud North was injured in a motorcycle accident on February 17 and travelled to Martinique on February 22.
The latest update was provided on March 4 during a show hosted by Dr. Ernest Hilaire. Norbert revealed: “I’ve had four surgeries in Martinique. As we speak, I’m still not out of the woods in terms of the foot. There are three main arteries going down to the leg; during the accident two of them were completely damaged and the third one was barely hanging on. [In Saint Lucia] Dr. Jeffers did what he could have done to salvage it but the strength in it is not what it should be, so we’re still having some difficulties in trying to salvage the foot as we speak.”
Norbert stated that the next few days will be extremely critical, with an important decision to make. Despite the circumstances, the ex-police officer remains optimistic. The outpouring of love and his faith has kept him through the painful nights, he said.
Today, March 5, the endorsed candidate is scheduled to undergo a ‘serious surgery.’ “This surgery is going to determine whether or not the foot is going to be salvaged or if we got to a point where we may have to look at other alternatives in terms of amputation. That is just the harsh reality,” Norbert said.
He continued: “What brings solace to me is the fact that I had options and I got to explore all my options…It’s a situation where I had all options explored before I came to this conclusion so if it comes down to this, I just want persons to be even further encouraged by that and to know that these things happen. Sometimes God allows certain things to happen to us but this is not the end of the world, this is just the beginning of good things to come.”
Norbert reiterated that he remains committed to contesting the next general election and encouraged Saint Lucians to continue praying for him.
