Jets soar in championship

The Miami Heat won consecutive NBA titles proving once again Heat rises. Here in St Lucia, Courts Jets took it a step further. They soared to a fourth consecutive national basketball league title with a victory over VBCC Warlords which clinched the best of three final series.

The win for Courts Jets was the first game of a playoff doubleheader played Thursday evening at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. In the first game ISE Academy forced a decisive game three on Saturday evening in the Division One best of three finals, following a dramatic win over Combined Schools.

A late free throw conversion by Rawlstan Mitchell sealed the win for ISE with the game tied at 54 apiece in the fourth quarter. Final score in that game was 55-54 in favor of ISE which forced a game three with the best of three series now tied 1-1.

The leading scorer for ISE was Lance Prospere with 17points (pts) and two rebounds (rebs). Rawlstan Mitchell chipped in with 13 pts and seven assists.

For Combined Schools, Kraigg Brooks led the way with 13 pts and five rebs while Troy Louison had 11pts and eight assists in their loss.

In game two, Courts Jets closed out the Premier League final against VBCC Warlords who needed a win to force game three. Already up 1-0 in the best of three series, Courts Jets in another nail biting finish secured their fourth successive championship after defeating VBCC 64-62.

This was another closely fought game which could have gone either way. However, Jets exhibited better poise, decision making and skill to come up with the victory. By sweeping the series 2-0, Courts Jets further stamped their dominance in local league basketball.

Ron DuMurville led the scoring for the Jets with 17 pts, 10 rebs and five steals. Andre Louison contributed 12 pts and eight rebounds.

For VBCC Warlords, Nigel Butcher had a game high 20 pts, 10 rebs and five steals in the season ending loss for them. Congratulations to Courts

The Division One game championship will be decided today (Saturday) at 7 pm at the Beausejour Indoor Facility between Combined Schools and ISE. Trophies and awards for both divisions will also follow the finals on Saturday.
