Quite apart from themes of the “last supper” and the “passion of the Christ,” Easter, for whatever reason is also associated with Easter Bunnies, Egg hunts, face painting and hot cross buns, you know, the kind of stuff that delights children and even the child in all of us. And so, with this in mind the Baywalk Shopping Centre held an Easter extravaganza for children on Saturday April 23 at the mall in Rodney Bay.
Hundreds of children, accompanied by their parents went to the Baywalk shopping mall for the event which ran from noon until 6pm, with popular music blaring through the mall by Litchie sounds to liven things up. Hosted by Scady, the mall’s Easter Bunny was also on hand, distributing sweets, chocolates and balloons to the children who also won toys for participating in fun trivia.
Some of the children were kept busy as they took part in face painting, while others participated in the Easter egg hunt, with clues taking them to various shops in the mall for their prizes. The children also received free ice cream from Ferrands Dairy as well as refreshments from Du Boulay’s and Express Distributors Ltd.
An impromptu fashion show, saw the young participants receiving gifts from LIME, while the main highlight, the Easter Bonnet competition found dozens of children, male and female showing off their creative hats. Held in three age groups; 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12, the 3-5 was won by Courtney Paul who received a “live” bunny, toys and flowers. In second place was Jevonte Michel Mohammed, third Rachel Joseph and they too won gift vouchers. The People’s choice was won by Chavel Pierre. Elisha Joseph won the first prize as well as the People’s Choice award in the 6-8 category. Her prize: a pair of earrings, a voucher from Access and movie tickets. In second place were Alana Girard and third Lionel Dantes. In the 9-12 category Misha Cox came third, Merlisha Mathius second and Jenny Lesmond came first and also won the People’s choice award. She received a Safire bracelet from Diamond’s International, flowers and movie ticket.
The management of Baywalk mall would like to thanks the tenants and sponsors of the event including Access, Lime, Piranha Joe, M&C Drug store, Microwest, Diamonds International, SLU Insurance, Flower Shack, Frans Boutique, the Gift Box, Just for spot, Churches Chicken, Creasian, Benetton, Photographic Images, Superior Foods, Casa Bella, QT and GL Supermarket.
According to Geraldine Mitchell of Baywalk the event was a success. “At the Baywalk mall office we put a lot of hard work into planning this and we expected a good outcome. But we were bowled over on the day by the outpouring and participation and we really want to thanks all those who supported this event,” she said. It is the intention of the management of the mall to continue to host various activities to be enjoyed by the whole family at the mall, during different occasions.
