Ladies steal the show at Inter-Commercial

It was ladies night at the annual Inter-Commercial House which was held at the National Cultural Centre on Tuesday July 10th, 2012. Fourteen artistes participated in what most would consider was a spectacular evening dominated by females.
Crowd support was phenomenal as workers and friends from each participating house came out in large numbers to motivate their very own. With Kwency “Superman HD” Griffith as the MC, the audience was sure to receive some much needed entertainment should any of the artistes fall short.
The battle began with Damian “The Fireman” Jn Baptiste, representing the St Lucia Fire Service with a song entitled, “Take Vat.” A song he performed at the Kaiso Headquarters on the weekend before with the exact presentation and the same style of delivery. Other than the skit at the beginning, the song failed to get the audience in the mood for a night of great music and lyrical comedy that the eleven-year competition is known for.
That changed however, when “Tixcy”, birth name Allen Tixcy sang “People’s Business.” Although her performance was still lacking the ability to move the packed house, her presentation sparked some laughter.
“Miss Kitty,” birth name Malaika Chester, representing St Lucia Electricity Company Ltd (LUCELEC) then took the competition up one notch, providing the paid supporters with a glimpse of hope if at all it had vanished into oblivion after the first two performances. Well at least she tried until she got to the last verse of her song when she quickly ran off the stage leaving the audience in a state of confusion. You would not expect that from the 2011 reigning monarch. Of course she may require a little benefit of the doubt which Superman HD gladly provided after the music stopped abruptly.
 “She is not feeling well tonight,” said Griffith who jumped quickly in her defense. However, that did not stop the crowd from releasing a volcano of laughter which indicated either way, they were having some much needed fun—whether it came from the performance or mistakes from the performers, it would be suffice.
The turnaround moment of the evening came when Shervon “Mighty Patch” Alexander, representing Consolidated Foods Ltd (Super J) managed to not only woo his large, unnumbered supporters but even the supporters of other commercial houses including ECFH and the disappointed LUCELEC. Singing a song entitled, “Cyan Save,” Alexander was able to incorporate a lighter side of expensive supermarket prices with a dynamic performance which kept the crowd jumping and moving to the music. By all indication, this one was sure to be a favorite by the end of the evening after witnessing a few terrible performances, however, with great performances by Sharon “Sha Blaze” Alexander, Miss Kaiso Headquarters 2012, Stephanie “Red Ant” Henry, Courts St Lucia’s Dorcia “Dee” Fenelon and ECFH’s Arlana “Lady Activist” Arthur, all remaining performances were, let’s just say, “to die for,” with laughter of course.
Kudos to the only media representing participant Ernell “De Hustler” Sextius of Calabash TV who still made the media fraternity in St Lucia proud, at least that is what was shown judging by the support that came from Choice TV workers as well as his own Calabash TV supporters.
With all of the surprises and unexpected twists of the evening, the show finally came to an end and the judges made their choices: third runner up, with 300 points was WASCO’s Jean “Jany Jan” Farrell who sang, “WASCO needs Money,” second runner up, with 305 points was ECFH’s Arlana “Lady Activist” Arthur with her song, “Celebrate Women,” first runner up with 327 points was NIC’s Sharon “Sha Blaze” Alexander with her song, “Prepare for Old Age,” and the 2012 Inter-Commercial Monarch, with 341 points was Courts St Lucia’s Dorcia “Dee” Fenelon with her song, “Carnal in Carnival.” This is Courts’ second win since the inception of the competition in 2002 where they were the first to win.
