What a precious human being! Born at Ciceron, Castries, attended the Ciceron Combined School and later attended the Corinth Secondary School. In her early and later adulthood she began a long and productive life of community service serving on the Ciceron Seagulls Sports and Cultural Club, The Ciceron Development Committee, and the Castries South Disaster Preparedness Committee.
Lail held professional responsibilities as an Accounts Officer and eventually became a shopkeeper, a known presence in the City of Castries and Ciceron.
In 2017 she took on the responsibilitity as Chairperson to the Castries South Disaster Preparedness Committee where over the next five years she whipped the organization into a functional body. Members attended training, the organization established it’s Sub Committees, cleaned out and did an inventory of it’s warehouse and took on the great task of preparing for the annual hurricane season along with the mammoth task of the Covid 19 Pandemic.
Lail was fully aware of the challenges at hand. From 2019 until her hospitalization, under her leadership, executive members and volunteers provided outreach to some two thousand vulnerable citizens of Castries South. Members were energized and motivated to serve. Lail had informed the Committee of her increasing health challenges and confirmed her recent Covid 19 status yet she worked on her tasks until her hospitalization. Members as well as herself were fully aware of the grave danger of her illness but hoped that she would survive the challenge. She succumbed to the complications of Covid 19 on September 16th.
The outpouring of grief and sorrow, intermingled with the joy and happiness, she had brought to members, as well as the community. This stalwart, commanding presence that had demanded that we do our best as volunteers have now gone to rest.
The NEMO fraternity has lost a great comrade. We will continue to uphold her legacy of dedication to serving the poor and disenfranchaized of this country. We are deeply greatful to have known and worked with her in Castries South. May she enter into eternal happiness.
The preceding was a Statement by the Castries South Disaster Preparedness Committee on the passing of Chairperon Lail Jeremie.
