Lawenn Kweyol Competition on this Sunday

Lawens dance their way to Super J waterfront Castries.

The Lawenn Kweyol St. Lisi, one of the more popular events on the calendar for Creole Heritage month will take place on Sunday October 20th, at the National Cultural Centre.  As a build up to the event, the contestants and the reigning Lawenn Queen Black Pearl toured some of the stores of Consolidated Foods Ltd. (the main sponsors) where they serenaded customers shopping as well as the public.

The first stop was Super J Waterfront where accompanied by the visually impaired band and former Calypso King Ashanti the ladies put on quite a performance, whetting the appetite of passersby on what to expect at Sunday evening’s show. From the Waterfront it was on to Mega J, then Super J Rodney Bay, and finally Super Cul De Sac, and then Super J Cul De Sac. At every stop customers got an opportunity to win tickets for the show.

Executive Director of the Folk Research Centre Mr. Hilary La Force used the opportunity to encourage shoppers to patronize the event, which he says  engenders a lot of cultural pride and appreciation of the contribution of the elders in various communities.

Consolidated Foods Ltd. has been sponsoring the Lawenn Kweyol St. Lisi for the past eight years. The company’s participation in Kweyol Heritage month is designed not only to promote and celebrate the island’s  rich culture, but to further enhance the local product offering at the stores, while creating value and excitement for customers.

All CFL’s stores (Super J IGA, Mega J and gl foodmarket) have already set the atmosphere for the month long celebrations through their decor,  extensive displays of local products, creole artifacts, music and general ambience.
