Levern is Saint Lucia’s Best Once Again!

The Caribbean’s number-one high jumper, Levern Spencer, has come in for high praise from LIME following her success in winning the 2011 Saint Lucia Sportswoman of the Year award.

Levern did Saint Lucia proud, once again, by winning the Sportswoman of the Year title for the 7th consecutive year, and 10 times overall. The local sporting sensation is currently in Germany undergoing training at the High Performance Centre at the University of Cologne in preparation for this year’s summer Olympics in London. Levern was the first Saint Lucian athlete to qualify for the 2012 Games.

LIME is Levern’s longstanding sponsor and has provided her with financial and communications support to assist with her studies and sporting career. The company also joined the business community and the government of Saint Lucia in supporting the ‘Levern London 2012’initiative aimed at helping Levern with her training as she prepares to compete in the 2012 Olympics.

“LIME is extremely proud to be Levern’s sponsor and we join with the people of Saint Lucian in extending warm congratulations to her on her phenomenal achievements,” said LIME VP Country Operations, Chris Williams. “Levern has definitely earned her place in the annals of our nation’s history as one of the finest athletes that our country and the region have ever produced. What’s more, she’s an excellent role model and there is a lot that she can teach young people about what it takes to reach the level of excellence that she has. We have no doubt that she will deliver an excellent performance at the Olympics and look forward to celebrating with her and the other Saint Lucian qualifiers on their return home.”

Levern Spencer is the CARICOM record holder and the Caribbean’s leading high jumper of all time. She recently won the gold medal at the CAC Championships in Puerto Rico, making it her fourth gold medal overall at this event. In addition to setting a new National Record for women’s High Jump, she recently placed third at the GE Galan indoor meeting at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. She was Saint Lucia’s first qualifier for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in March, and the only Caribbean woman to meet the qualifying mark for this event.
