LIONS OF ZONE 3B (SAINT LUCIA) CELEBRATE ANOTHER MILESTONE

New members inducted.

[dropcap]O[/dropcap]nce again the Lions of Zone 3b gathered to celebrate another milestone in Lionism.   The Micoud Lions Club on Sunday March 26 celebrated the 22nd Anniversary of their Charter as a Club.   The Club was chartered by the Vieux Fort Lions club who at that time embraced the need to expand the service of Lions.

The celebrations began with a Church Service at the St Lucy Roman Catholic Church in Micoud followed by a social activity at the Globe. The Charter President Lion Julie Blanchard who is the current President expressed how pleased she with the contribution that that club continues to make in the areas of Diabetes Education and Screening, Sight preservation and Education Relieving the Hunger and Provision of Educational support to needy students to mention a few. She noted that despite the many challenges the club as lived up to its “We Serve” motto.

The club also recorded some positive growth with the induction of two new lions into the fold.

The highlight of the activities was the launch of the Lion Belina Clifford Educational Fund. Lion Belina was a Charter Member of the club who up to the time of her death had given sterling contribution to the Club and Lionism. She is the only member of the Micoud Lions Club who has served in the capacity of Zone Chairman.   Lion Belina contribution to the Community of Micoud did not only extend to her work in the Lions Club but in her contribution to the education and social development of many a young person in Micoud.

The Purpose of the Education Fund is:

  • To provide financial support for the ease of access to education for students from Praslin to Blachard in the Micoud geographical district;
  • To commemorate the valuable contribution of Ms Clifford to Education and Lionism during her lifetime.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education pledged the support of the Ministry for the initiative and noted that efforts like these ensured that the mandate of equality and accessibility of education for all is achieved.

The Account for the management of the Fund is at the Mon Repos Eastern Cooperative Credit Union – Account No 25517.   Individual and corporations who wish to ensure that children in the community of Micoud have access to education can pledge their support.

We invite persons to pledge their contributions to the Fund and let us ensure that the legacy of Lion Belina Clifford continues
