Following the passage of Tropical Storm Bret, St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) crews began damage assessment and power restoration works at approximately 8:30 a.m. after receiving clearance from the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO). Power has since been restored to 75% of customers who lost service during the passage of the storm.
The electricity system suffered no major infrastructural damage. Most of the power outages were caused by numerous instances of damage to power lines by trees, branches, and wind gusts causing feeders to trip. This is particularly so in areas with critical water sites where a greater effort to restore is required due to high levels of vegetation and overgrowth.
The main areas across the country where customers remain without service; include from Dennery, Au Tabor to La Haut, Sarrot to Vanard, Fond St. Jacques, parts of Choiseul, Laborie, Cap Estate, Rodney Bay Ramp, Hill 20 to Fond Canine in Babonneau, Forestierre, Morne Du Don, part of Grass Street, parts of Castries East namely Bagatelle, Rock Hall, Arundell Hill, part of Entrepot and Marchand including Bishop’s Gap. LUCELEC crews are continuing power restoration to all affected customers.
In the meantime, customers can call the following numbers to report faults: 452-2165 OR 457-4765 from Cap Estate to Dennery on the East and Canaries on the West and 457-4800 OR 454-6617 OR 454-6977 from Praslin to Bouton.
