STAR Reporters were on the scene in Castries where police have shut down several streets and having a massive search of Wilton’s Yard, formally known as the Graveyard on Wednesday February 16. Some police officers were masked and reports are that at least four people have already been arrested. We have also received reports of shooting in the area. Reports indicate a cutlass weilding man was shot in the leg while the operation was carried out.
Residents of Wilton’s Yard expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the police executed the raid as well as the heavily armed weapons they carried. Police Commissioner Vernon Francois revealed the raid was part of wider operation targetting the city’s hot spots called Operation Restore Confidence.
St Lucia has over the last month been shaken by several incidents of gun violence and a rising body count as a gang war rages on in the city.
