Mini-hoops Festival held for Mr Magic

The Mini-hoops clubs of Castries and Corinth recently came together to host the second annual Mini-hoops Festival. This year the event was dedicated to the memory of Morgan “Mr Magic” George, a pioneer of youth basketball in St Lucia and the founder of the Mr Magic Basketball Academy.

The festival, which took place at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex involved the following clubs: Fireshots of Corinth, Mr Magic Basketball Academy, Vide Bouteille Primary School and Maranatha Eagles of Castries.

Forty-four children ranging in age from five to 12 participated in this year’s event.  They took part in team relays and three on three games. Participants also showed off individual skills in the following areas: speed shooting, shooting accuracy, straight line dribble, cone dribble and passing accuracy.

Following are the results in order of finish. Speed Shooting: Age five to seven: Kevlan Evelyn, Dornell Fletcher, Kareem Nicholas. Eight to 10: Gianne Williams, Malik Phillip, Quincy Peters. 11-12: Jonas Landwehr, Rohan James, Sean Alexis.
Shooting Accuracy. Five to seven: Ngeri George, Carlisle Wilfred, Stephan Jn Marie. Eight to 10: Jivan Joseph, Makeo Boulogne, Malik Phillip. 11-12: Sherveran Leo, Jonas Landwehr, Rohan James.
