Neon Fun Walk was a bright idea!

The dynamic duo of the 758 Adventures Club’s Jason Sayers and Julian Toussaint were at it again. After recently conquering three of Saint Lucia’s highest peaks on the same day, both were involved in organizing last Sunday’s Neon Fun Walk.

The evening walk that began at 6:30 pm outside the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre (RHAC) attracted 65 participants. They were provided with a kit that included water, energy drinks and neon sticks. From the RHAC, participants followed the route along Bonne Terre, Caye Mange, to the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground through Beausejour, on to Gros Islet before ending up at Pigeon Island. The distance covered was approximately 5.65 miles.

Daryl Peters placed first among male participants, Chantal Glasgow took top honors in the female category and Charles Sayers was the oldest finisher. How did the idea for this night walk come about? Sayers said: “It came from team member Camille who said there was one in Saint Vincent so I said why not have not here. Persons have been advocating here for something different, so we figured why not have one here in the evening.”

Sayers pointed out that feedback from the Neon Walk on Facebook and Instagram was overwhelming and participants really enjoyed themselves. Of course this walk was all about keeping fit especially now. In addition, Sayers explained that the reason 758 Adventures Club was formed, is to get people to explore the island by going on hikes and seeking out the numerous waterfalls.

Piggybacking on what Sayers said, Toussaint remarked: “The feedback I got was good. It was a great event and well attended. It was just something different to do. Like my co-partner mentioned before, everything is being done in the day in the hot sun and so doing this in the evening was really good for everyone. I think this is something we can look forward to doing yearly or maybe twice a year.”
