New Taiwanese Ambassador impressed by PM’s speech

Just days after the former Taiwanese Ambassador left the country, his replacement, who came in on Monday this week has already been working hard to continue the work started by predecessor Tom Chou.
The new Ambassador, James Chung says he is happy to be in St Lucia.
The first order of business for the new Ambassador is a presentation of his credentials to the island’s Governor General next week. Chung says since he came in on Monday, he has already made plans to meet with Government officials to discuss how his country can assist in areas such as Medicine, Agriculture and Fisheries.
“I will make some calls with your Government officials and also I will work with your people in the future in every field. We already have a very close relationship in agriculture, in education and medical field. I believe there is a big room for me to work with your people. Those relationships I believe can allow us to take some concrete actions to better these areas in your country,” said Chung.
Once these formalities are dealt with, the Ambassador says he will get right to work in what he believes will be “strengthening ties with
St Lucia.”
Chung assumes the post with relations between the two longtime allies after there appeared to be a quieter and calm presence of the Embassy since the new SLP Government assumed office last year and the controversial departure of Tom Chou.             Despite a comprehensive and successful aid program during his tenure, the St Lucia Labour Party accused Chou of interfering in the island’s political affairs and called on the Taiwanese Government to recall the diplomat.
Notwithstanding the apparent friction between the previous Ambassador and the Government, Chung believes relations will endure because of the existence of mutual interest and need for economic development.
“We already have strong ties with your great country, so I believe under the good basis the tie can even be strengthened and can be even better—and that is my duty as the new Ambassador. I look forward to working with your people, with your Government as I said before, in every field.”
The new Ambassador was in attendance at the Thirty-Third Summit of Caricom Heads of Government at the Sandals Grande, St Lucia.
Speaking at his first official event attended since arriving, the delighted Chung says he was very impressed with St Lucia’s Prime Minister and hopes to stay as long as possible in St Lucia.
“I wish I can stay as long as possible because I like this country. I like your people. This morning I joined the event and it was very impressive. Your Prime Minister gave a very impressive speech, so I look forward to working with your people.”
