The St Lucia Football team of New York, the defending champions of the Caribbean Cup of New York Soccer title completed the first phase of the defense of their title in ripping form.
In the preliminaries of the eastern zone of the competition, the team played unbeaten winning four of their five matches and drawing one, scoring 17 goals without having a goal scored against them.
In their latest encounter last Sunday St Lucia defeated Panama 4-0. The goals scorers were Vernon “Bolo” Abbott with two, Nyhime Gilbert with one and there was an own goal. They had previously defeated Barbados 5-0, St Kitts 2-0, drew with Guyana (goalless) and defeated Dominica 6-0.
The St Lucians are scheduled to come up against team Grenada USA on August 11 in the quarter final playoffs.
In other news, there is the mid season all star break this weekend with the feature match being the eastern All Stars vs the Western All stars.
Four St Lucian players will be involved in that encounter as part of the Eastern All Stars line up. The players are Vernus Abott the older brother of Vernon Abott, Pernal Williams, John Perry Joseph and Nyhime Gilbert.
