NFL players in St Lucia!

Eric Dorsey (l) and Derek Brown, who both played in the NFL, pictured here during an interview at Smugglers Cove Resort and Spa.

Who will win the Super Bowl and why? “The Pittsburgh Steelers, I have been to two Super Bowls and I think the team with the best defence and the best quarterback usually wins. Green Bay Packers have a great quarterback but that’s pretty much all they have. I think if the Pittsburgh defence can stop that one player they win the game.”
Former New York Giants defensive end Eric Dorsey who was vacationing here at Smugglers Cove Resort and Spa along with another former NFL player Derek Brown (New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, and Arizona Cardinals), made that predication at Friday’s cocktail party at Almond Smugglers Cove.
In Sunday’s Super Bowl, the Steelers couldn’t stop Packer’s great quarterback Aaron Rogers and as a result Dorsey’s prediction went out the window. Packers won 31-25.
Brown didn’t fair any better. On Friday he said: “I have to agree with Eric, if I was a betting man I would go with the Steelers. It’s kind of old hat to them. Granted Green Bay has been there a few times but it’s been a long time.”
He also pointed out that if the Steelers contain Rodgers they have a great chance to win.
There was no stopping the Packers star quarterback. He connected on 24 of 39 passing attempts for 304 yards and three touchdowns. That performance earned him the game’s MVP.
Both former players were happy to escape the cold in Dallas and be in warm sunny St Lucia for the Super Bowl weekend. They came here following an invitation from a good friend Billy Taylor.
For Brown, this is his second trip to St Lucia. He was here about 12 years ago for his honeymoon.
The players hope their presence here will bring more awareness to the game. They mentioned that countries like Mexico and China are thinking about acquiring their own teams. And yes, there is even talk of the NFL expanding to the United Kingdom.
Dorsey and Brown did not rule out the possibility of making a return trip here to teach youngsters the game.
“I think there are great athletes in St Lucia,” said Brown. “If the young
athletes can pick up on the sport I think it will take off. Granted it’s a very violent sport but it’s a very athletic sport the camaraderie is fantastic.”
This year the NFL instituted a rule changes when it comes to tackling an opponent, in an attempt to cut down on head injuries.
Brown who is against the rules let his feelings known: He growled then said: “I think it’s a bunch of baloney. Quite frankly football is a violent sport we are gladiators.”
He went on to say there are cheap shots being taken now and then but most of the hits are fair game.
With the NFL collective bargaining agreement expiring March 3, unless there is a compromise between players and owners there will be a lockout—in other words no football.
Both players are optimistic things will be worked out before the deadline rolls around and there will be football next season.
“I am counting on it. As a long time fan I cannot imagine going through the 2011 season without football and not seeing my beloved Minnesota Vikings play.”
