Kit-Juelle Frank-Amoroso was installed as the new president of the NIC Toastmasters Club No. 8750 on Wednesday, June 29 at the NIC Conference Center. Her tenure effectively started yesterday July 1 and she will serve until June 30, 2012, which is the Toastmasters’ calendar year.
In her speech during the ceremony, Frank-Amoroso told of her entry into NIC Toastmasters four years ago and its enlightening experience. Said Frank-Amoroso: “Being part of Toastmasters is such a wonderful experience as it allows each of us as members to grow and develop as public speakers and leaders both in and outside our regular Toastmasters meetings.”
The new president has high expectations for the organization because of the foundation led by previous executives. She anticipates an exciting year ahead.
Justine Charles serves as the immediate past president and was praised for her outstanding work during her term. There was resounding applause as she took to the lectern to present the closing remarks for the ceremony. She wished her successor all the best in their endeavours and promised to support the club in as many ways possible but not before providing invaluable advice to the new executive—”meet each challenge head on.”
Mauricia Francis-Thomas, Country Manager of First Caribbean International Bank and a former Toastmaster, was the guest speaker. She encouraged the club to strive arduously because an easy victory is no victory at all. She proffered that our St Lucian society is in need of a peaceful state of existence. “Our society is in dire need of communication skills,” she lamented. She asserted the crime and violence permeating society can address through communication and understanding. Further, she reminded each Toastmaster of their duty to themselves, the club and the society and asked that they try to recruit more members so the message of the Toastmasters is far reaching.
The new executive is as follows: President Kit-Juelle Frank-Amoroso, VP Education Allison Delmede, VP Membership Tanya Brown, VP Public Relations Julian Charles, Secretary Lucy Alexander, Treasurer Dylan Bourne and Sergeant at Arms Elina Marcel.
The NIC Toastmasters meet every Wednesday at 5:30 pm at the NIC Conference Room to promote their goals of enhancing their communication and leadership skills by presenting prepared or impromptu speeches, evaluating and encouraging speakers, rotating specific leadership roles and enjoying overall camaraderie.
The NIC Toastmasters Club is part of Toastmasters International which has been operating since 1924 as one of the best structured world organizations, with 11,700 clubs and more than 235,000 members in 92 countries.
