Nintus releases Christmas Track

Nintus delivers ‘Hail Emmanuel’.

Earlier this month, Nintus Magre released new music just in time for the Christmas season and so far the reviews have been encouraging. The artiste is no stranger to the music industry and is known for his participation and competing in the calypso arena.

Nintus’ new track which is entitled ‘Hail Emmanuel’ was written by him and produced by Warner “Semi” Francis. The track, which is produced as a Christmas carol, is according to Nintus a step away from our relative Caribbean genres.

“When Warner and I went to the studio, our aim was to depart from the traditional Caribbean tune, the soca, the reggae, and do a globally traditional tune, something closer to a classic or a ballade-kind-of-take on the season”.

He also mentioned that they wanted to keep away from what has become the normal Christmas theme in our region, which is the party aspect of the season; the food and the rum, rum, rum, rum.

“ We did not want to just talk about the merriment and the fun which we’re famous for in this part of the world, but instead talk about Jesus and the events that lead to his birth. And focus as well on the reason for him being born, and what it has done for us as his beloved creation”.

Using this as his theme for his latest production comes as no surprise as Nintus is recognized for his heavy gospel influence and messages in his calypso music, which is commonly referred to and gradually being accepted as a new genre called gospelypso. According to him, his inspiration for his music can come from anything, but whatever music he produces whether it be gospel, calypso, gospelypso or Christmas, he always tries to bring across the message of Christ to the people.

Nintus told the STAR that the track has obtained great reviews and comments from the public and support from media houses including Calabash TV and Radio Caribbean International (RCI). He says that he is very much surprised by the way it has been received.

“ They have been telling me things like ‘this song is bigger than me…this song is just
going to go places and you will be like, what happened?”

Nintus has been on the music scene nationally for the past seven years, and has been recording Christmas music since then. “Every year since I began singing calypso, with the exception of one year, I have made a contribution to the season and I do different takes on the season. “ De Pudding” was about the food, “Drama Boy” has to do with the drama boy but in a Caribbean setting, and “Noel Here” was a tribute to my bother Noel who is born on Christmas Eve”.

For Nintus, his gospelypso style of music started in church, when took part in a gospel expose, and he decided to preach god’s message to the people in a genre that they could relate to, and therefore he chose calypso/soca.

Some of the production involved two studios, Danny’s Den in Gros Islet and ForYa Studios in Babonneau. There will definitely be Christmas albums in the future from Nintus. Plans are to incorporate some of his old tracks with new music that has been released as yet.

He says about the song: “ Everybody’s been saying that “it make me feel like Christmas, it brings that warm feeling.. And this is what we wanted. We wanted to bring the traditional Christmas back to the individual”.
