Opposition Leader Philip J. Pierre has described as “political propaganda” claims that he is an atheist. The question of Pierre’s religious beliefs came up today during Chill & Chat— a program hosted by businesswoman Lisa Jawahir. “I am far from that,” Pierre told Jawahir when asked about the claims. “I am far from that. That is political propaganda. I am Catholic, in fact I go to church every Sunday.”
The Castries East MP continued: “Literally every Sunday and I don’t sit in the front, I sit among the people. I go to the Catholic church in my constituency every Sunday. I am nothing near an atheist. In fact I actually pray! So if anybody says so, that is completely false.
“Having said so, I have friends who are atheists, I talk to atheists but I am nothing near an atheist and I don’t think I’ll ever be an atheist. I believe in a supreme being, I believe in God,” he said.
