PIERRE PROMOTES ‘MENSTRUAL EQUITY’ AMONG ST LUCIAN WOMEN!

The women and girls who need sanitary napkins/towels and tampons deserve affordable access to these essential hygiene products. Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre and the Cabinet of Ministers took a decisive step toward ending period poverty in Saint Lucia.

The Cabinet approved a memo submitted by the Ministry of Commerce to include female sanitary products in the government’s official price control list. Before the Prime Minister’s Cabinet agreed to add female sanitary products price control list, retail and wholesale markups ranged from 90% to 155%.

Because of the Cabinet’s intervention, markups on female sanitary products will be restricted by 35% for local retailers and 30% for wholesalers. Adding female sanitary products to the price control list will prevent price gouging and promote menstrual equity in Saint Lucia.

Female sanitary products will remain on the price control list from October 23, 2023, to August 1, 2025.
