Pierre takes issue with PM posting about Thomazo bread and guavas

Opposition leader Philip J. Pierre has described as “bluff”, two of Prime Minister Allen Chastanet’s recent casual Facebook posts. On September 15 a video of Chastanet picking a guava from a tree was uploaded to his Facebook page. He captioned the video: “Did you know that guavas have a higher concentration of vitamins when compared to apples? It really should be ‘A guava a day, keeps the doctor away’ #BuyLocal #EatLocal.” The next day the prime minister posted a photo of himself taken during a visit to the popular Thomazo bakery in Dennery. It was captioned: “I love hot bread from Thomazo just as much as you do.”

Addressing party faithful in Castries East on Tuesday, the opposition leader accused the United Workers Party (UWP) of being the “masters in the art of deceit.” He stated that if there’s one thing the UWP is good for, it’s “lies and propaganda” and warned supporters that the posts are attempts to “get into your minds.”

“They are the masters in the art of deceit. Masters! That’s why the prime minister went to buy; the prime minister have his coat and tie and he go and buy hot bread. Where you ever hear of people going and buy hot bread with a suit? Bluff! I mean seriously you ever see a man go and buy hot bread with a suit?” Pierre asked.

“These guys have made so much money from selling apples, all of sudden guava get good. All their lives they made money selling apples but recently guava get good. So ‘eat a guava it’s the best fruit.’ Bluff! Bluff! So why you sell apples all your life for? You make all your money selling apples, you never sell no guava.”

He continued: “You see, it’s to get to your minds…getting into your minds. So you won’t think about it ‘oh boy the prime minister down to earth, he eating guava, he buying hot bread. So Philip must do the same thing too, eat guava and buy hot bread.”

Asserting that he is a “real man”, Pierre added: “I eh eating no guava, I eh buying no hot bread, I eh doing nothing so because that is bluff! Bluff comrades and more of that will come… All sorts of things to confuse you.”
